Since 1950 the Greek Guiding Association has been committed to providing opportunities for children and young people with special needs through the establishment of Special Troops. Over the years these Troops have enabled individuals with disabilities to experience unprecedented freedom, to connect with nature and to form new friendships. The Pedagogical Guiding Programme emphasizes that disability is not an obstacle and continually highlights the true potential of these children.
In partnership with Special Schools, Institutions and Special Needs Centres that recognize the educational value of Guiding, a two-hour weekly meeting is incorporated into their programmes. These meetings support activities that promote personal development, socialization and the opportunity to connect with peer groups.
As members of the Special Troops Guides, children and young people with special needs up to the age of 35, we belong to a vast and inclusive community of friends worldwide. We embrace the journey of self-discovery, strive for independence, embrace environmental awareness, cherish camping experiences, value friendships and embody the spirit of giving to others.
Disability does not hinder us from leading fulfilling lives. On the contrary, we embrace challenges and celebrate the strength and resilience within us.
